Sofia is the Bulgarian capital and its largest city, and is situated at the foot of Vitosha Mountain in the very centre of the Balkan Peninsula. With a variety of architectural styles, picturesque scenery and easy access to outdoor activities, this city is a definite must-see!
From well-preserved city walls built in the 7th-century BC through to the early Medieval buildings. From the 4th-century Rotunda St. George and 10th-century Boyana Church with its stunning 13th-century frescoes to Socialist-era monumental constructions, Sofia offers a real treat for the city dwellers and history lovers.
Most of the popular landmarks are located in the Oborishte district, the most central part of the city featuring plenty of greenery, cobbled streets and the most popular landmark, the Neo-Byzantine Alexander Nevsky Cathedral.
Sofia offers plenty of natural sites too, including the renowned thermal and mineral springs, the primary reason Thracians established the city here before the 7th-century BC. Enjoy a walk in the most popular parks, the Borisova gradina or the impressive Vitosha Nature Park with over 270 square km situated entirely within the city limits.
From hiking to skiing on the Vitosha and from sightseeing to relaxing in mineral springs, Sofia offers a plethora of fun for everyone! On Booking.com you can find nearly 190 properties in the city: from 5-star accommodation in the city centre to convenient hotels near Sofia Airport.

We spent an afternoon in Sofia, mostly the bus/train station and Serdika areas. The bus stations desperately needs modernisation and more facilities but buses run on time so we can't argue with that.
It was an enjoyable few hours, the people were friendly, there are some roman ruins in the Serdika area with churches/mosques and a synagogue we saw. The trams through the city were very frequent. We used the metro for the airport and to our apartment which is excellent.

Very cozy city; a mix of old communism buildings and modern life, pubs and restaurants. Beautiful mix of different cultures (mosque, orthodox churches, catholic churches and sinagogues in the same street). It's really a place to visit in the Balkan area

Liked the hotel, thexploring the city. the drive up the mountain and the view from the top of the old disused cable car, not many interesting attractions and the City does not appear to be geared up yet for international tourism.

Beautiful and lively city. A lot of places of interest to visit - the Cathedral Alexander Nevski is impressive.
A lot of museums, art galleries and nice city parks and Vitosha mountain park.
A lot of restaurants with excellent food.
Easy walking in the central part of the city. Public transportation is very convenient. Taxi rides are not expensive.
Definitely recommend to everyone.

Sofia is very walkable.
Sofia is very walkable. I didn't need to use the metro or taxis for my itinerary. I spent 2.5/3 days there and saw everything I needed to leisurely.
The churches are beautiful. I recommend visiting them all, even briefly. Vitosha Boulevard is great but a little bit of a tourist trap. I'd still recommend walking along there and picking up souvenirs, having food and drink.
Shishman Street is less of a tourist trap and is lively during the evenings.
Food is good in general. There are plenty of options. I particularly liked Arbat (Russian restaurant) which is opposite the Russian Orthodox Church, St Nicholas. There are also many market stalls around, mostly between here and the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral.
If you want some comfort/western food, I'd recommend Skaptoburger on Shishman Street - really good.
Nightlife is also great - Shishman Street and those nearby (Bar Friday, Beach Bar, Kristal Bar, etc.) and also many nightclubs around if that's of interest.

It is just an amazing city and country with culture and fantastic sites throughout the country that is not matched by other countries. Definitely a 'must' for anybody wanting to see and explore a fantastic city and country.
This is a grand hotel. It's well presented and the room I stayed in had recently been refurbished. The breakfast was excellent and there were many options to cover every diet and taste. The ground floor bar was fine and stayed open reasonably late. The hotel is in a great location with lots of bars and restaurants nearby. Bulgaria's parliament is around the corner. The hotel is just two stops on the metro to the main railway and bus stations.
Nice hotel in the centre of Sofia near the famous Boulevard Vitosha. Great shopping and going out in the area.
The hotel is in a quiet street and has a 24hr reception.
Our room was a studio and was large with a little kitchen block in it and a balcony.
It was at the back of the hotel so quieter than at the front. The room had a good shower.
Breakfast was good and a little more on offer than usual in Bulgarian hotels
Hotel is located in a very green place with a lot of trees, they have free parking and places for a rest on a territory. An apartment itself is nice and clean, except bathroom because of smell. The bed is not comfortable (at least, for me). The host is very nice, she cooked a breakfast- omelette with Bulgarian cheese and tea or coffee (5 euro)
Place is good for a one night😊
The place is very clean and tiny, with a sense of design. It's in one of the best neighborhoods where plenty of bars and restaurants are nearby and atmosphere is just so cozy. But also it's located on a quiet street so you get good sleep. There's also a common kitchen where you get free coffee and tea. Definitely a great choice for staying in Bulgaria!
WE needed a place within walking distance of the train station, and this fit the bill. However, we were cautioned to not walk the neighborhood alone. We did walk to an excellent Bulgarian restaurant and then to the train station the next day totally without incident. In addition, the breakfast buffet was excellent!
Very large room. Good location 8-10 minutes walking to Vitosha street - central pedestrian street in Sofia. Excellent breakfast. Such a tasty tomatoes, cucumbers you could never buy in supermarkets. Also all products in Bulgaria are very delicious and tasty.
We spent one night at andesite boutique residence hotel, while traveling through Bulgaria, we had a great time, the room was clean and well equipped, beautiful furniture, the host was a lovely woman she was very kind and helpful! Thank you! 💜
The appointment was clean and spacious. It had everything needed for a comfortable stay for a family. Best shower of all of the places we stayed in Bulgaria!
Short walk to the metro. Private parking. Easy communication with the host.
Super friendly staff, clean and large room with separate bedroom for the parents. Excellent breakfast. The fact that this hotel is super clean and close to the airport makes it a returning stay after our yearly stay in Bulgaria.
I liked how the host was thoughtful. I came from Boston and my charger wasn’t compatible with the power outlets in Bulgaria. However, my host left me a power adapter that connects my charger to the outlet. He/she saved my life!
All good, location in the center. The receptionist speaks Italian, which was great to communicate. Breakfast included, which is coffee, a croissant and one egg (I would add a Bulgarian yogurt, they are great).
The hotel is beautifully designed. Modern and clean. We needed a hotel close to the airport for one night with 3 kids, it was perfect for our first night in Bulgaria. The breakfast was delicious.
I always stay at Intercontinental when in Sofia as it's simply the best hotel in town (and probably in Bulgaria). The staff are very welcoming and polite, the rooms are clean and spacious.
I love this place, I’ve been staying here every time I come back to Bulgaria for the past five or so years! usually great value, I really enjoy the hotel and the staff are amazing!
Beautiful boutique hotel. Very romantic. Nice apartment with very nice view. Frindly staff. Good spa.Good Wifi. One of the best restaurant in Bulgaria. We will come again
